Overview
Giza Recalibrated is a larger desert tournament map where fertile pockets hold most Food and Wood, while later Gold, relics, cliffs, and travel lanes occupy the open ground between them. Each player starts in a home oasis, expands through two settlement oases and one bonus-hunt oasis, and can find three smaller goat oases farther out. None contains water or fish.
A common side assignment coordinates both settlement pairs, the bonus oases, close zebra, and close and outer Gold. Individual positions still receive wider inward/outward and around-the-reference variation, so the shared strategic direction does not produce identical local maps.
Fertile pockets sustain the economy, but long-term map control extends into the desert: expansions, outer Gold, relics, and the expanded later goat distribution reward early scouting along the shared side.
Fertile Oases & Cliffs
Standard-size 1v1 requests fourteen fertile areas: two home oases, four settlement oases, two 420–450-tile bonus oases, and six 120–160-tile goat oases. The bonus pair begins at least 55 m from its players and carries gazelle plus two forest areas per oasis. The six smaller pockets are created around outer goat groups beginning at 60 m.
A shared 50/50 roll chooses four 100–150-tile small cliffs or two roughly 145–218-tile large cliffs. Cliffs begin at least 65 m from their associated starts, stay 55 m from every start, and avoid fertile ground, buildings, and tower vision.
Food
The full initial finite-Food envelope is 13,600–24,250, with 18,650 expected. That includes 24–44 goats at 50 Food each and four to eighteen hyena carcasses, but no fish. Fully fattening the same goats raises their potential from 1,200–2,200 to 7,200–13,200 Food.
| Package | Map total | Geography |
|---|---|---|
| Starting hunt | 14–16 gazelle, 12–14 zebra, or 6–8 hippos | One shared three-way branch near the two starts |
| Opening support | 8–12 berries; 8–12 chickens; 4–10 goats | Inside the home economies |
| Settlement rhinos | 4–8 rhinos | 1–2 beside each of four expansion settlements |
| Bonus-oasis gazelle | 10–18 gazelle | 5–9 in each player's bonus fertile pocket |
| Close zebra | 10–16 zebra | 5–8 per player at 55–80 m on the shared side |
| Later goats | 20–34 goats | 2–4 close groups per player plus three outer groups per player |
| Predators | 4–18 hyenas | 1–3 groups per player at 80 m or farther |
The outer goat package is especially important: every player gets exactly three groups of two or three goats, and each group creates its own small fertile oasis. These are dependable map objectives rather than an accidental repeat of the close-goat placement.
Wood
Twenty-eight forest areas are requested. Five 50–70-tile starting forests per player give ten near the home oases; three around each of four settlements add twelve; two in each bonus oasis add four; and one 90–100-tile outer forest per player adds the final two. Stragglers and scattered palms supplement them.
There is no fixed theoretical Wood total because forest area does not fix tree count or density. The reviewed Gameathlon generation contained 188,011 Wood, useful as one concrete example rather than a guarantee.
Gold
Gold ranges from 42,000 to 54,000, with 48,000 expected. Each player has one 3,000-Gold mine at 21–25 m, one 6,000-Gold close mine at 50–70 m, and two or three 6,000-Gold outer mines from 70 m onward.
The close mine stays at least 55 m from every start and at least 12 m outside fertile ground. Outer mines stay at least 8 m outside the oases. Both packages follow the shared side, concentrating long-term Gold along the same broad expansion direction as the settlements and bonus economy. The current rules keep later Gold placements 60 m apart.
Settlements & Map Control
Each player receives two expansion settlements, each surrounded by a fertile pocket, three forest areas, and one or two rhinos. The first pair lies 85–110 m from its players; the second lies 90–135 m away. Both pairs follow the common side and use wide separation, making the expansion corridor a major concentration of Food, Wood, and objective value.
Relics
Four relics are requested, two per player. They begin at least 70 m from their associated and every other start, stay outside fertile oases, and avoid tower vision, settlements, cliffs, and the map edge. Decorative statues, obelisks, torches, and a central terrain plate change presentation, not the relic economy.
How this differs from the Standard Maps version
The tournament footprint grows from 270 × 270 m to 282 × 282 m: 72,900 to 79,524 m², or about +9.1% area. The first settlements move from 80–100 m to 85–110 m, the second from 90–120 m to 90–135 m, and both pairs join the tournament's common side assignment. Bonus oases, close zebra, and later Gold also follow that side.
Wood expands from twenty-two 50–70-tile forest-area requests to twenty-six at that size plus two larger 90–100-tile outer forests. The later goat package is expanded: 24–44 goats overall instead of the Standard execution's 16–34, with six dependable small goat oases. The two-large-cliff branch is smaller, at roughly 145–218 tiles per cliff rather than 200–300. Gold counts, the four relics, opening hunt, settlement rhinos, and predator package remain materially consistent after direct verification. Lighting and monument decoration are presentation changes rather than strategic resource changes.
This overview compares the current Gameathlon Athens 1.4 Giza rules directly with the current Standard Giza rules, then checks the tournament economy against one user-confirmed Standard-size 1v1 Scenario Editor generation and its overhead. The comparison supports the stated dimensions, counts, branches, distances, shared-side behavior, and requested terrain and resource placement. It cannot prove that every attempted area or object completes, nor can one generated map establish exact generation probabilities or universal positions. The reviewed tournament generation recorded 15,850 Food, 188,011 Wood, and 54,000 Gold; those values describe that map. Food falls within the 13,600–24,250 calculated envelope, Gold matches the maximum source-backed request, and Wood remains observational because forest areas do not determine an exact tree total. Strategic descriptions of a coordinated expansion corridor are Prostagma's interpretation of the verified placement rules.
